wednesday, october 21, 1998, 02:38 i was thinking a couple of nights ago as i was standing outside of the computer center and witnessed, in the brisk autumn air, a car moving at a fairly high rate of speed plow into and completely mangle a parked car. not all that amazing, to be sure, but realizing, as the ambulance and the police showed up, that most of the people inside the building, inside the lab where i had been a little while ago, had no idea what was going on outside the building. life went on as usual in there, as it should. but to realize that while my life was suddenly thrown into the lives of the four people in the car, millions of other lives went on as if nothing had happened, was an interesting to think about. obviously not that interesting since it's taken me until now to write about it, but whatever. we got our cable modem fixed today. or rather, we got a replacement ethernet card from the cable company and got everything up and running all over the apartment. of course that was a trying experience as it was since the guy from the cable company really didn't want to listen to anything i had to say about what was wrong with the hardware itself. "the ethernet card is busted." "duuuhhhh..." quite unhelpful. but everything's working now, and i spent way too much time tonight doing bullshit stuff instead of studying for my midterm which is tomorrow. which means that i'm going to sleep now in order so that i may be neat and perky and clean for all the crap i have to deal with. put on a happy face and all that.
