another kind of me

a trip through me

friday, july 31, 1998, 01:18

it sounds like there's a rattlesnake in our neighbor's yard. of course that's ridiculous, but still, it sounds like there's a rattlesnake out there.

a nice relaxing not-so-relaxing day was spent after waking up early to the sound of the alarm and lying in the warm bed because it felt so good i finally got up and hour before my normal waking time anyway and got showered dressed breakfasted and to work with a productive as much of a day as i actually spent there. you see, it was only a half day (barely) since i left at two in the afternoon to truck my ass back home to meet up with folks to head off to the horde festival for an afternoon of meriment at $4/hour what with the price of admission food drinks and clothings.

now i've never been to one of these huge festival lots and lots of people big amphitheatre-type festival thingies and while it was fun, i think i'll stick to the intimacy and ear-blowing properties of the club concert. so let's see, of all the acts that were at the fest, i'd have to say that by far the one that got the people moving and the roof shaking was barenaked ladies. and that was a good show, because they are absolutely fun and insane. and despite the fact that they only had an hour long set, it was still quite fun. well...

there was the small issue of those three enormous drunk guys standing in front of us who couldn't seem to stop talking, and yelling, and falling into each other. and i must say that it's situations like those when i just realize that it's just not worth it to consume alcohol in any sort of quantity. because i never want to get like that. i just don't understand how that can be considered alright in our society, to see these three oafs so obviously not taking resposibility for being complete assholes on the grounds that they were smashed out of their heads. but enough of this rant.

because despite that, the band was absolutely amazing.

blues traveler came on after them, and while they too had a good set, it just lacked the energy first of all coming off of the bnl show, and secondly realizing that by this time it was nine-thirty and we had been there since three in the afternoon. the audience was slowly trickling out of the park, and those who stayed struggled to stay on their feet, most of us collapsing into the chairs until they played those few songs that are played on the radio that everyone knows and everyone jumps to their feet and shakes along because they know all the words.

that was the girl standing behind us.

but super-fun, and i even got my sister a present. aren't i a good person?

there's that rattlesnake again. hrm.
