Senior Project

Do you have a special interest you would like to develop further? Are you curious about a topic that is not covered in a Greeley course? Would you like to do a service project - with young children, with the elderly, with the handicapped? Does an alternative to formal course work appeal to you?

Senior project is an opportunity for a senior to work individually witha a faculty mentor on a topic personally selected by the student. One-half credit is awarded for the successful completion of the project.

Interested seniors should discuss the ideas with their councelors and should see Mr. Dunn for additional information and an application.

Walkabout

The Walkabout Program is conducted by, and housed at, the BOCES center in Yorktown Heights. It is an alternative education greared especially to seniors. The program includes: Academics (18 weeks), Career Internship (9 weeks), Wilderness Experience (5 weeks), Community Service (3 weeks). Each spring instructors from Walkabout visit the Greeley campus to conduct a brief orientation to Walkabout. Arrangements can also be made for interested juniors to visit the Walkabout facility to explore possible admission for the next fall.

Any student interested in this alternative experience should discuss it with his or her counselor.

Independent Study Program

Independent Study projects are graded on a Pass/Fail basis. The Independent Study Program provides students with an opportunity to earn a credit for study in areas not presently included in the curriculum. It should aslo provide an in-depth experience in the library, statistical, or experimental research.

An independent study project requires the apporval of parents, guidance counselor, the chair of the department and the teachers involved. A proposal for more than one credit is possible under an expanded independent study program.
